What is a Spiritual Awakening and How Can It Impact Your Life?

As a transformative coach that works often with individuals navigating their spiritual awakening, I wanted to address the most frequently asked questions I receive from clients. Below you will find some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) and their answers.


1. What is a spiritual awakening?

A spiritual awakening is like hitting the reset button on how you see the world. It’s a moment (or process) when you start to realize there’s more to life than just the daily grind. You become more connected to your authentic self, the universe, the bigger picture and oftentimes begin to search for your passion or meaning in your life.


2. How do I know if I’m going through a spiritual awakening?

You might notice things feel… different. Maybe you’re questioning everything you thought you knew or feeling like your old ways of thinking don’t fit anymore. Other signs? Heightened intuition, vivid dreams, or even a strong pull toward spirituality or self-discovery.


3. Does everyone experience spiritual awakening the same way?

Not at all. There is no one-size-fits all. For some, it’s a slow and steady process. For others, it can feel like a lightning bolt out of nowhere. There’s no “right” way for it to happen and it’s important not to compare your journey to someone else’s. No two awakenings are going to be the same.


4. Are there physical symptoms of spiritual awakening?

Yep, and they can catch you off guard! You might experience changes in your sleep, random bursts of energy (or fatigue), sensitivity to noise or energy, or even unexplained physical discomfort. It’s your body adjusting to the changes happening on a deeper level.  Please keep in mind that some of these changes can mirror health issues so it is always important to rule out medical issues with a licensed medical or mental health professional.


5. Is it all sunshine and rainbows?

Not always. A spiritual awakening can often feel messy, emotional, or even overwhelming. It’s like cleaning out a cluttered closet—you’ve got to face some old junk before you can create space for something new and beautiful. You’ve had years to develop the patterns and coping mechanisms that you’ve used in your daily life, relearning how to move forward in a healthier way can take some time.


6. How long does a spiritual awakening last?

There’s really no timeline for this. For some, it’s a slow journey that unfolds over years. For others, it’s fast and intense. Truthfully, spiritual growth is lifelong, so in a way, the awakening is just the beginning.


7. Will this change my relationships?

It’s possible. As you grow, you may find that some relationships no longer align with who you’re becoming. But you’ll also attract connections that feel deeper and more in tune with your new path.


8. Do I have to follow a specific religion or belief system?

Not at all! Spiritual awakening isn’t about religion—it’s about connecting with yourself and the universe in whatever way feels right to you.


9. How can I navigate this without losing my mind?

Grounding practices are your best friend—things like meditation, journaling, spending time in nature, or even just sitting quietly with a cup of tea. It’s important to seek support, whether it’s through a mentor, coach, or community. Finding like-minded individuals to discuss what you’re experiencing is key for clarity and understanding. 


10. Can I have more than one awakening?

Absolutely! Spiritual growth is like peeling an onion—there are always more layers. You might have multiple awakenings throughout your life, each bringing new lessons and insights.  Know that they don’t all have the same intensity, some can be a quick “upleveling” while others can be a bit more involved and detailed.


11. What if I feel stuck or overwhelmed?

First off, you’re not alone. Feeling stuck usually means you’re in a phase of integrating what you’ve learned. Be kind to yourself, take it one step at a time, and lean into self-care. Sometimes, a little help from a spiritual coach (hint, hint!) can go a long way.


12. How will this change my day-to-day life?

You might find yourself making different choices—whether it’s who you spend time with, how you spend your energy, or what really matters to you. Life often becomes more intentional, meaningful, and aligned with who you truly are.
